Sonoi singer Adam Busch and drummer Pierce Doerr drove two days from Chicago to Philadelphia. There they met bass player, Ryan Hembrey fresh off a plane from California, to record "Micro-Coliseum" for the Shaking Through series. The project was curated and produced by Danielson singer, Daniel Smith, who had played with Busch and Hembrey's former band, Manashevitz.

Recording with Sonoi

Sonoi are Chicago music scene veterans. Guitarist and vocalist Adam Busch and bassist Ryan Hembrey were both members of celebrated art-pop group Manishevitz. Hembrey has worked with Edith Frost, Andrew Bird, and Smog, and drummer Pierce Doerr has composed music for Chicago Public Radio's This American Life. Their experience shows in their music, where carefully constructed soundscapes reveal a sophistication innate to the trio's songwriting aesthetic. Sculpting patterns and sonic transformations into their folk-inspired pop, Sonoi write songs that expand and contract, creating an intriguing dynamism filled with the shapes and sounds of real life. Founded in 2006 as a recording collaboration between Busch and Doerr, Sonoi came into its current incarnation in late 2007 with the addition of Hembrey. They made their performance debut in early 2008, and quickly earned spots sharing the stage with other innovative, more established acts such as The New Year, Destroyer, and avant-folk favorites MV & EE. Having garnered praise from Chicago's local blogosphere for their noise-inspired sound, Sonoi is set to release their eponymous debut LP on April 27th via Low Transit Industries.
